Minitab Installation and Licensing on Macbook

As of recent changes to the manufacturer's licensing policy, using Minitab in classrooms or instructional labs has become more complex due to the shift from Network/Concurrent-User licensing to individual Named-User licenses. This article will guide you through the process of installing and activating Minitab on your MacBook.

Before proceeding, ensure that you have created an independent Minitab password during the account activation process. If you forget your password, click 'Forgot Password' and follow the on-screen instructions.

To begin the installation, sign in to the License Portal using your email address. You will then see a new Minitab Statistical Software shortcut on your desktop with the message 'Completed Minitab Setup.' Click 'Finish' to proceed.

On the Ready to Install Minitab window, click 'Install.' Select the default installation location and do not change it. On the next screen, select 'Sign In' as the licensing method, then click 'Next.'

If you are installing Minitab on a Cornell-owned computer, you may need assistance from your local IT support team to complete the installation.

During the installation process, accept the default installer options until you are asked how you want to activate the software. You will need to sign in with a Windows Administrator account to run the installer.

Once the installation is complete, you can access Minitab by navigating to the folder where you installed it (default location: Desktop > Minitab). Right-click the installer archive and select 'Extract All.' The extracted file name will be minitab21-2-0-Win64.zip.

Alternatively, you can use the Minitab Web App, which offers every feature of the desktop edition without the need for downloading or installing software on your computer. To access the Web App, simply download the Minitab 21.2.0 installer from the CU Software Minitab Licensing article and follow the instructions.

The manufacturer and CIT strongly recommend using the Minitab Web App instead of the Windows desktop edition due to its increased stability and ease of use. If you normally use an unsupported browser, we recommend switching to a supported browser (Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or Apple Safari) when accessing the Minitab Web App, as other browsers may not support all features.

For users who previously ran Minitab 20 for Windows with an expired license, we recommend migrating to the Minitab Web App or installing version 21.
